Wonderful as alwaysA wonderful story。 I love the main characters。 So many twist and red readings。 I highly recommend all the books by this author。
Phthon,
What an absolutely delightful way to experience Scotland! I can’t imagine what that hike would be like but I bet it is wild and beautiful。 I was delighted to see the soft core that exists within Etta, I always suspected it since she was so crusty outside! I also enjoyed seeing how she interacted with Rufus and how he completely charmed her。 This is such a wonderful book!

Rain, wind and rugged terrain don’t deter our intrepid houseswappers, retired teachers from Italy, Etta and Dora, and their intrepid basset hound, Leon, from hiking the West Highland Way。 At the start of the journey, the women encounter an intriguing group of treasure hunters, all possible heirs to a fortune, which includes a castle on an island。 The group’s task is to hike the West Highland Way and discover the answers to clues handed out to them every morning。 The way is in parts treacherous, Rain, wind and rugged terrain don’t deter our intrepid houseswappers, retired teachers from Italy, Etta and Dora, and their intrepid basset hound, Leon, from hiking the West Highland Way。 At the start of the journey, the women encounter an intriguing group of treasure hunters, all possible heirs to a fortune, which includes a castle on an island。 The group’s task is to hike the West Highland Way and discover the answers to clues handed out to them every morning。 The way is in parts treacherous, especially made so by the nature of the landscape and the poor weather conditions。 As they make their way, the two women meet up with the group again and again。 Not surprisingly, strange things begin to occur – and then the inevitable murder。Once again, Adriana Licio has written a novel that is not only great fun but also challenges the reader to figure out what is really happening。 Who are the good guys, and the not so good guys? What I especially enjoy about this series of books - in addition to the characters and the humorous, yet captivating storylines - is the variety of locations。 This time we are in the Scottish Highlands, with its legends and quirky characters。 The setting is deftly depicted, right down to the smallest detail, and one can really gain a sense of what the women went through on the trek as well as what they saw, the mountains and the lakes and the people they met along the way。Pure entertainment! Can be read as a stand-alone novel but is so much better if you are familiar with Etta and Dora’s previous escapades。 I highly recommend Death on the West Highland Way! I received an ARC of this book; this review is my honest opinion。 。。。more

Filled with some laugh out loud moments and Leon's thoughts about his bipeds, I absolutely love this series and you will too。 I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own。 。。。more

Dora and Etta, and of course Leon the Basset Hound have arrived in Scotland to walk the West Highland Way a 96 mile hike through the beautiful Scottish Highlands。When they set out they meet up with a group of potential heirs to the fortune of one Angus McGrouse who has set them the dual challenge of completing the hike, but also searching for hidden 'treasure' along the way。However first one, then another member of the group drop dead, is it a coincidence or is there a malign influence at work? As Dora and Etta are involved, the answer to that will come as no surprise。Adriana Licio always manages to come up with inventive storylines and I think that this is one of the best that she has created so far, it is very different to a 'normal' mystery plot and it certainly keeps the attention right to the end。 But it is in the characters that she really excels, Dora and Etta are funny but inspiring and of course Leon is the real hero, in his own mind anyway, I love the way that his thoughts are added into the writing。 The Scottish landscape and people are also portrayed very affectionately, she spent some years living in Scotland and this shows in her vivid descriptions of the terrain, weather and atmosphere。Although this is part of the Home Swappers series and is best read as part of that series, it is also a perfectly acceptable stand-alone read。I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of this book, but this honest review is written voluntarily。 。。。more

Another wonderful adventure for Etta, Dora and Leon! This time the trio decide to hike the West Highland Way, quite a hike, even broken up into segments! Robert is a gentle and humble man, as his name might suggest, and astonishes Etta as he shares his clues and knowledge with others in the group。 But when strange things begin to happen to others in the group, Etta and Dora become suspicious and start their inevitable investigating! Becky,
This was a great way to take an adventure through Scotland。 The way this is written you feel as if you are right there with the characters feeling all the pain, cold, rain etc。 “Seeing” all the new sights A great new way to tell the mysteries that Dora and Etta encounter。 Lots of maybe it’s…。 Or…。。, keeps you in your toes and guessing。 I would recommend to anyone who likes cozy mysteries!I received an ARC copy。

Did he have a heart attack? Or is something sinister going on? Then someone disappears。 Now, Etta, Dora, and Leon have to investigate。 Since Leon is in charge (or so he thinks) he must protect his bipeds。 And his wonderful nose can be a big help。 You will enjoy the beautiful scenery, quirky characters, and excellent plot。 This is a page-turner and a must-read。I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review。 My opinion is entirely my own。 。。。more

Valeri,
The author’s ability to paint a picture is unparalleled。 Reading one of her books you really get the sense she’s been there, seen that and wants you to knwo exactly how she felt in the moment。 And the mystery isn’t bad either。 Dora and Etta with a little help from their faithful Basset Leon embark on their latest adventure walking the West Highland Way of Scotland and I’m oh so jealous。 Full of beautiful scenery, handsome Scotsmen and a couple of corpses you don’t want to miss this journey!

This charming, witty, informative narrative is among the best light reading has to offer。 Ms。 Licio's descriptions put you right on the West Highland Way。 It's impossible not to visualize yourself in each location。 Vivid and colorful, like a master's brush on canvas。 Etta, Dora, and Leon shine and a softer side of Etta is brought to the fore。 Superior and outstanding, this is truly enthralling, engrossing, and enchanting。 Very Highly Recommended。 This charming, witty, informative narrative is among the best light reading has to offer。 Ms。 Licio's descriptions put you right on the West Highland Way。 It's impossible not to visualize yourself in each location。 Vivid and colorful, like a master's brush on canvas。 Etta, Dora, and Leon shine and a softer side of Etta is brought to the fore。 Superior and outstanding, this is truly enthralling, engrossing, and enchanting。 Very Highly Recommended。 。。。more

If I weren’t 80 years young, I’d be packing my rucksack, getting on a plane to Naples, stopping in Castelmezzano to visit with Etta, Dora and Leon and then heading to Scotland to hike the West Highland trail。That real is the feeling I had about the characters and descriptions Adriana has included in this book。The book is so enjoyable that I’m planning to read it again。Too bad it’s not three times longerWhat a MASTERPIECE!

An inheritance, a treasure hunt, and lots of heirs fighting over it。 Things are happening, sinister things… Quote: “Why dig for trouble when life itself was so very generous in supplying plenty along the way?” And that it does! The story is mostly told from Etta’s POV。 Etta, who is tough and down-to-earth, yet secretly has a softer heart than she’ll ever let anyone know。 Then we have Dora, with her dreamy enthusiasm, unfaltering optimism and never-ending kindness, but make no mistake, she knows how to get what she wants when it’s something important to her。 She has a backbone that may be hidden sometimes, but it’s not absent when it concerns things that matter。 Of course Leon the Basset Hound is once again THE hero, in his eyes at least! LOL, he’s so cute。 And he thinks he’s the one who is in command, not his two bipeds! This book gets ten stars from me! WOW! Amazing! I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland, but now I want to go even more! The author painted such a vivid picture of the views, that I could very easily imagine myself being there。 Simply brilliant! I was so mesmerized that I felt a bit dazed when I was at the end! The Scots are famous for their storytelling skills, but Licio proves to be a worthy rival。 This book could easily be read as a standalone。 Quote from Leon the Basset Hound: “Leon sidled closer to the two women; under certain circumstances, even useless bipeds could offer a little comfort to a frighten… I beg your pardon, a cautious Basset。”Another quote because I just couldn’t help myself! “An instant later, Leon was dragged from the breakfast room, too shocked to call upon his Basset superpower – his ability to increase his weight at least tenfold whenever a human was silly enough to attempt to force him to move when he had other ideas。” LOL! 。。。more

Once again, Dora, Etta & Leon are on their travels。 This time they are walking the West Highland Way in Scotland。 They happen to be at the start of another group’s travels, too。 These are after an inheritance, a very large one。 Mysterious things happen, people die, disappear & Etta is very attracted to a man she met along the way。 Naturally things do get sorted out, by Etta & the man, Rufus an ex policeman which was a great help!

I loved this story! This author writes such fun stories that capture you on the the very first page! So entertaining and unpredictable! I was guessing whodunit all the way to the end! 4。5 stars Enjoyed the atmosphere of the story; the occasional perspective of the four-legged observer; the descriptions of the West Highlands。 And oh, the people! I would give it five stars, but the ending felt incomplete to me - I wanted just a little bit more of the story and journey - I don't want to explain what specifically, as that would be a spoiler。 However, it does end well, and the tale is entertaining。I received an ARC; this is my honest review。 。。。more
